Strangers and Pilgrims
Homily on Monday, August 2nd
This homily was given by Fr. Stephen on the feast of Our Lady of the Angels of the Portiuncula. This is the feast of two things: Our Lady of the Angels and the little church that Saint Francis found and God called him rebuild His Church. Saint Francis would begin the Franciscan Order, at the least the spiritual part, at this little Church. He asked the Friars to never leave the little church yet also know that they are strangers and pilgrims.
We are all strangers and pilgrims. We are strangers because we are here one moment and gone the next. And pilgrims because our home is not here – our home is in Heaven. Mary’s life was just this – she was a women of prayer. Mary can help to us to look to her Son and guide us back to Jesus in Heaven.
