Hear my voice, Lord, when I
call; have mercy on me and answer me. “Come,” says my heart,
“seek God's face;” your face, Lord, do I seek! Do not hide
your face from me; do not repel your servant in anger. You are my help;
do not cast me off; do not forsake me, God my savior (Psalms
27:7-9).

The
face of the Lord is that image according to which we have been created
“to his image and likeness.” We lose that image when
we fall into sin. To find the lost image of God, we must examine
every corner of our conscience, confess our sins and do works of
penance. Thus
will we recover the image of the Lord.
The image and face of the Lord is recovered and preserved above
all by the virtue of charity. As God is the cause and principle
of all things, so charity is the primary virtue that must be acquired
before all others. If it is mutual and constant, it covers a multitude
of sins.
Charity, or love, is in reality the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth.
As charity covers a multitude of sins, so too does the grace of
God, which makes one do penance.

O
good Saint Anthony, Model of Holiness, attract my soul to your virtues,
so that imitating your life of penance, I might always respond to
