Notice that just as the Father is merciful toward you in a threefold way, so ought you to show mercy toward others in three ways. The Father’s mercy is gracious, spacious and precious. The Father’s mercy is gracious, that is, grace-filled because it purifies the soul of vice. The Father’s mercy is spacious because with the passage of time it extends itself to good works. The Father’s mercy is precious in the joys of eternal life.

Your mercy toward others ought also to be threefold. If anyone sins against you, you must pardon him. If they stray from the path of truth, you ought instruct them. If they are hungry, you ought feed them.
