The Blessed Virgin Mary was a vessel because of her humility, gold because of her poverty, solid because of her virginity and adorned with precious stones because of the extraordinary privileges given her.

Because humility and poverty were distinguished by the integrity of the Blessed Mary’s virginity, she was like a “vessel of gold.” The Blessed Virgin was solid and constant in her virginity, and therefore was able to contain Wisdom within herself. Today this vessel, the Virgin Mary, is adorned with precious stones, for on this day she received all the honors and gifts of heaven. Because she bore the Creator and Redeemer of all, she receives veneration from all the saints.
